Hello guys! How are you doing? I hope you are really great! So, last week I was a little bummed that I hadn't created a holiday themed Science poster... and I was just simply out of time. Another year gone by, and still no Holiday poster. >Insert sad face< But Friday I began thinking about the idea again, and decided that if I really pushed I could still get something up. I already had some holly, berries, and poinsetta's I had illustrated in photoshop. But, I just couldn't get inspired enough to make them work. I wasn't happy with it, no matter how hard I pushed. Then I finally had an idea that just really felt right. I pulled out my paint brushes, and india ink and started scripting some phrases. I seriously used up 40 sheets of paper, and settled on my two favorites. I posted this picture on instagram:
It was so refreshing to think a little differently and have some creative freedom. Not labeling these as science posters, but wall hangings gave me a completely different direction to design towards. I sprayed the wood pieces a black satin, so that it kept the overall design bold, graphic and cohesive with whatever holiday decor you decide to use.
I can't tell you just how influential my instagram followers were in helping me decide that these were going to be my holiday posters! I posted a peek at the design above on instagram, and asked for opinions. This was something pretty new for my etsy shop, in terms of style, but everyone was so supportive! It gave me the inspiration I needed to design the second poster, print, assemble, design the packaging, then today - style, photograph and list the posters! Thank you to anyone that liked, commented or offered support. It really truly helped me get these finished. :) You can take a peek at them here in the shop:
However, I only have a limited amount of dark sprayed wood, and once I run out, I will have to pull these from the shop. I have a few already in stock and ready to ship, and a small bundle of wood on hand for a small re-stock. But, that will be all I have. It has gotten really cold here in WA, and spraying outside will not be a comfortable option! :) Plus- I like keeping these limited somewhat- I think it makes them a little more special. :)
